Phil Day has just broken the world record on the 28-year-old classic arcade game, Galaga. Passing the previous mark of 2.7 million points set by Andrew Laidlaw in 2007, Day’s score of 3.44 million is the culmination of six months’ training and practice. Players must videotape their record attempts and Mr Day’s score has yet to be verified by Twin Galaxies, the world authority for computer game records, but we expect confirmation soon..

BERLIN, Germany (CNN) — After bagging three gold medals and setting two world records at the Berlin world championships, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt told CNN he didn’t expect to be so successful. “I didn’t see this coming,” Bolt told CNN’s Frederik Pleitgen. “I guess it’s competition. I keep telling people competition is good for the sport. I had to be at my best, and I was at my best.” During the championships, Bolt smashed his own 100 meter dash world record with a time of 9.58 seconds

Replay – Lightning Bolt smashes 200m record Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt claimed yet another world record as he recorded a stunning victory in the 200m final at the World Championships. Bolt set a time of 19.19 seconds to demolish the previous record of 19.30 he set in winning Olympic gold last summer in Beijing. The 22-year-old finished well clear of the field, with silver medallist Alonso Edward finishing in 19.81. Wallace Spearmon of the United States took bronze.

In the same way Michael Phelps rejuvenated interest in swimming, Usain Bolt’s world-record breaking 100 and 200 meter runs at the recent Olympics gave track and field a needed shot in the arm. Since American favorite Tyson Gay was unable to compete, many have waited to see if he can hold his own against Bolt, who is currently at the top of his game.
